A
vacation(假期) is filled with (充滿)fun and
relaxation(鬆弛,放鬆). The vacation I took
to Bali had both. Last week I shared
(分享) the relaxation with you but this
week I will share the fun with you.
Do you like the water? Well I do! So one of the first things we decided
(決定) to try was whitewater rafting(泛舟). Our trip (行程) started at
9:00 a.m. with a two- hour drive into the mountains. It was a beautiful
drive as we got to see the terraced (連綿的)rice fields (水稻田) and peanut
(花生) farms along with (沿著)the various (不同的) fruits and vegetables.
There would be five people in our raft(筏). Our local guide (當地的導遊)was
the most important, but we also had a couple (夫妻) from the Netherlands
(荷蘭)with us. We had to wear helmets (安全帽) and life vests (救生衣). The
river was very exciting with many rapids(急流). Fortunately(幸運地), none
of else fell out (跌落) during our trip. Our journey (行程) was 12 km
long and we finished (完成) it in 2 hours. We saw beautiful waterfalls
(瀑布) and even went through one and got soaked(使濕透). It was very powerful,
but also very beautiful! At the end of our river adventure (冒險) the
river dropped (滴下;落下) 4 meters which left us with a great memory
(回憶) of this river.

In the United States, kids get a three-month summer vacation. This
is because, many years ago, most kids needed the time off to work
on their family's farm. Today, few kids work on farms, but they
sure love their long summer vacations.
In cold parts of North America, kids get a day off from school if there
is a bad snowstorm.2 The day is called a “snow day.”
In Taiwan, kids get a day off there is a typhoon.3 The day is called
a “typhoon day.”
Did you know that some kids in North America don't even go to a school?
They are “home-schooled,” which means that their parents teach them
at home.

off 這個介係詞，帶有「離開；分離」的含意；time off from school 即表示「不上學的日子」。time 也可以代換其他的時間，如:
a day off (一天假)等。
例 : I took some time off and went fishing .
我休了幾天假去釣魚。
